Good Bye to “Tammy Faye” and Hello to “Tink”

For those who don’t know, “Tammy Faye” was what I named my 2006 Cadillac CTS.  It came to me right after I got her and I sprayed rim cleaner on the wheels.  A steady stream of wet, black, brake dust ran off the tires and onto the driveway, so I immediately realized what I would call her:  “Tammy Faye”.

Anywhooo, about two months ago, I got “car fever” and began looking at new vehicles.  I knew I wanted either an Infiniti M35/45 or an SUV.  The Infinitis start in the mid to upper $40’s, and run as much as $60K, which I just can’t afford, so I started looking at SUV’s.  Do you know how much those things cost?  I couldn’t afford one of them either…or so I thought.

One day, I was looking at Carmax’s website and searched by “SUV”.  I saw a 2006 yellow Hummer H3 and really liked the look.  The more pictures I looked at, the more I liked it.  I started doing some research on H3s and decided that, except for not getting great gas mileage, it was exactly what I wanted!

A little more research revealed that General Motors was offering insane rebates in addition to their ”Red Tag Price”, so I started sending emails to dealerships.  Since my credit is excellent, I wasn’t worried about financing.  I received an email from Capital Cadillac Hummer in Marietta GA.  The email was one of those no-pressure, let us know when you’re ready to buy, emails.  It stood out from the others because it’s unbelievable how pressuring dealerships can be.  Shame on all of them.

One thing led to another, and bada-bing, bada-boom, I went to visit them this past Tuesday, 12/30/08.  I looked at, drove, and bought a black 2009 Hummer H3:

With the red-tag price and rebates, I got $10,000 off the MSRP.  I didn’t get what I wanted as a trade-in for Tammy Faye, but we still put together a good deal that gave them a profit and left me feeling good about the whole thing.  All in all, I didn’t feel a bit of pressure…kinda odd for a car dealership, huh?

Anyway, next came naming the Hummer.  Since it’s such a butch-looking vehicle (good thing your truck’s butch, Alice), I had to think of a really butch name for her.  Consequently, I named her “Tink”.  Anyone who watches Sordid Lives: The Series, knows who “Tink” is.  For those of you who don’t watch SL:TS, “Tink” is an ultra-butch lesbian stage manager on the show.  Once I considered naming my new Hummer “Tink”, it just seemed like the perfect name for her.  Jimmy just rolled his eyes at me and Josh was appalled.  How dare I name such a butch vehicle, “Tink”.  LMAO!

I bought some side steps and luggage rails off eBay.  Both were new and about 1/5 of what the dealership wanted.  I will post a couple more pics once I receive and install them.

Oh yeah, I finally confirmed my travel plans for January:

            January 4-6, Nashville TN
            January 8-11, San Juan PR
            January 17-24, Honolulu HI
            January 25-29, Indianapolis IN

Updates and pictures to follow….

Y’all take care.
